Abstract

ABSTRACT: The municipality of Jaramataia, located in the Sertão de Alagoas, has a population of 5,558 inhabitants (IBGE, 2010) and it establishes field-city relations mediated by the articulation of flows that emerge from its urban and rural spaces. The municipality is made up of seven villages and a settlement, with productive chains linked to milk production, fish and subsistence agriculture in the mold of sustainable / family work. Given the above, the objective of this research was to understand the population dynamics that are established between the headquarters of Jaramataia and the areas where the main flows of these productive chains that are located in the rural perimeter are concentrated. In addition, the study places on the analysis agenda the reality of small towns that maintain the complex relationship with the countryside through agriculture. Methodologically, a bibliographic survey was performed based on the keywords town-country, small town, production chain and agro-industry, and then semi-structured questionnaires were elaborated and applied, and finally, the data were analyzed.

KEYWORDS: Small towns, Alagoas hinterland, Rural-urban.
